MEMBERS of a university's students' union are sporting wacky hair-dos on campus in a bid to attract attention to the symptoms of a deadly illness.
The students are hoping the stunt will make people aware of meningitis.
People aged between 18 and 24 are particularly vulnerable to the illness.
Symptoms include high temperature, vomiting, fever, headache, stiff neck, aversion to bright light, a rash and muscle pains. These may not all appear at the same time.
Aline Marron, student health advisor at the University of Teesside, in Middlesbrough, which is running a Meningitis Awareness Week, said:
"The hair styles are a fun way of attracting people's attention to a very serious issue."
