CONKERS: Conkers fans can take part in the George and Dragon Conkers championship 2003.
This is the third year the championships have been held at the George and Dragon, High Street, Yarm. The event takes place on Sunday, October 19, at 1pm. All are welcome.
TROLLEY DASH: Yarm District Lions Club's Grand Charity Draw 2003 is in aid of Butterwick Children's Hospice and other Lions charities. The draw took place on Saturday. The winners were: first prize of a three minute trolley dash, A Knox, ticket 1902; second prize of Safeway vouchers, P Stainer, ticket 2443; third prize of Safeway vouchers, Mrs J White, ticket 2298. Yarm Lions wants to thank all who contributed. The trolley dash will take place in the Safeway Store, Ingleby Barwick, on Sunday, at 8am.
YARM FAIR: The annual fair arrives on Tuesday, October 14, from 6pm. The stalls and rides will be put up the next day with the fair opening for business on the Thursday until Saturday, October 18. The fair will leave Yarm on the Sunday. Police said that the High Street will be closed to traffic from 6pm each day and traffic will be diverted along West Street.
FUN CHESS: Yarm School is hosting a fun evening of chess on Friday, at 7pm, in the theatre and dining rooms. It is open to pupils, parents, governors and invited friends of the school. It is a five-round handicap tournament. Everyone plays against those on a similar score from earlier rounds. There will be plenty of prizes.
OVER 50S: The over 50s club of Ingleby Barwick meets every Wednesday, from 2pm to 4pm, in the community hall, Haresfield Way.
CHILD GROUP: Ingleby Barwick and Thornaby childminding group provides childcare in a caring, homely environment for babies and children. It also provides before and after-school care, occasional minding and care packages. For Ingleby Barwick contact Emma on (01642) 761817.
JAZZ BAND: The Ingleby Barwick Juvenile Jazz Band meets in the community centre, Haresfield Way, Beckfields. Children aged four to 18 years are welcome to join and can learn new instruments. Sessions are on Saturdays from 2pm to 4pm and on Sundays from 6pm to 8pm. Admission is £1. For details call 07799 283051.
LINE DANCING: Take part in line dancing at Egglescliffe Community Centre, Durham Lane, Eaglescliffe on Fridays, from 1.45pm to 3.15pm. Admission costs £1.60 for members and £1.80 for non-members.
ZO'S PLACE: Ladies of all ages are invited to make friends at Egglescliffe Community Centre, Durham Lane, Eaglescliffe. The Ladies Section meets on alternate Thursdays at 7.45pm for a talks, demonstrations and socials. The autumn programme continues on October 9 with a talk on Zo's Place. New members will be made very welcome.
ANNIVERSARY EVENTS: An event, featuring Parkfield Pastimes, will be held as part of Preston Hall Museum and Park's 50th anniversary celebrations, on Saturday, from 10.30am to 3pm. For details, call (01642) 781184.
