PLANS to put Thirsk well and truly on the Christmas events diary may be hampered by a lack of helpers.
Only a handful of people turned up to a public meeting to discuss the ambitious three-day winter wonderland which the chamber of trade has suggested as a way to boost the town.
A feasibility study paid for by Yorkshire Forward outlines the idea which includes an ice rink and snow slopes, covered-in craft marquees and a lantern procession, plus other attractions for young and old.
Don Moore, the chairman of Thirsk Chamber of Trade, said: "Only seven people turned up at the meeting. I was very disappointed. It makes you think you are banging your head against a brick wall."
The winter wonderland would cost about £25,000, but it is expected that much of that would be recouped from traders and people hiring space and selling food.
The idea is supported by Thirsk Market Town Regeneration Committee, and funds are available to pay for a festival co-ordinator if enough general support is found.
The steering committee, of which Coun Steve Hubbard is a member, needs at least two more people to put their names forward.
"The initial idea received good support and I am hoping that poor attendance at the public meeting was due to lack of awareness about the meeting. The event would be so good for the town bringing in thousands of extra visitors," he said.
Anyone willing to put their names forward should ring Coun Hubbard on 01845 524627.
