Last weekend Le Mans, France, played host to the next stage in the FORCE 5000 and the BRSCC championship where Edwin Jowsey of Whitby competed.
The three day event took place in sweltering heat, with track temperature reaching 90F.
Qualifying took place on Friday, with two Force 5000 races on the Saturday and the BRSCC race on the Sunday. Edwin (pictured), 17, recorded the fourth fastest lap for Saturday's racing and pole for Sunday.
At the beginning of the first race the cars took their place on the starting grid and were about to complete the mandatory warm-up lap when Edwin's engine cut-out and would not restart. Under the scrutiny of the French marshals, all of Edwin's desperate attempts to restart the car failed.
Edwin said: "We had to remove the car from the grid and pull out of the race all-together. There was a problem with the fuel intake, the team worked feverishly to fix the car, after new filters and clean petrol bags it appeared to be ok."
As a result of not completing the first race Edwin lost his grid position and had to begin the second race from the back. After a blistering start the Lola piloted by the teenager moved up six places in the 22 strong field. Edwin moved up a further two places in the next two laps, by the halfway point Edwin was challenging for the lead. Eventually after a dogfight that lasted a for over three laps young Jowsey took control, but with only two laps remaining the Lola started to miss-fire, the fuel intake problem had returned to haunt the talented teenager. Edwin's progress was hampered but he hung on to eventually finish third.
Sunday's race went smoothly for Team Garbutt Heaters as Edwin led from the start and never appeared to be troubled. He consistently increased his lead each lap, whilst the other competitors fought over second and third place. As Edwin received his trophy the main stand was filled with the sound of 'God Save the Queen' much to the delight of the traveling British motor sports fans.
The proposed British Rallycross Grand Prix scheduled to be held at Croft Circuit over the weekend of October 11 and 12 has been cancelled due to a shortage of entries. Also cancelled are the Internations Cup and the Junior Rallycross Championship which were scheduled for the event.
