Brompton (Northallerton) Juniors: A good first half from Brompton Under-10 B who played some good attacking football, passing the ball around well.

Both sides competed in what was an entertaining half although neither side could produce a goal. Oliver Welham was again in fine form for Brompton making several superb saves to deny Marske. The second half saw Marske taking control in Brompton's penalty area and despite Welham's heroics Marske ended up 5-0 winners.

Brompton Under-10 A travelled to Redcar seeking to maintain their unbeaten record without two of their regular squad. Robert Maclean moved into defence to partner David Holmes and this pairing proved their worth by maintaining a rock solid line at the back and with Lee Taylor in goal ensured a clean sheet for Brompton in what was possibly their biggest test yet against Redcar. Immediately from the kick off Brompton forced a corner, which flashed across the Redcar goal from Chris Holmes and was cleared effectively by Redcar who broke down the left, unleashing a 20 metre shot at goalkeeper, Lee Taylor, who parried it over his crossbar. This created the pattern for the match that saw a non-stop end-to-end encounter.

Thomas Armstrong broke regularly from right mid-field to support Mark Watkinson in attack and midway through the first half was bundled over by a Redcar player who subsequently was yellow carded for an off the ball incident following a clash with Thomas. Chris Holmes maintained his dominance in mid-field and consistently took the ball to Redcar's box and was unlucky to miss with a thundering shot over the bar. The first half ended with a combination of passes from David Foster to Mark Watkinson and finally a near miss by Thomas Armstrong after the Redcar goalkeeper spilled the ball on the edge of his box.

The second half began at a similar breakneck pace.

Thomas Armstrong began with a long-range lob just to the left of the Redcar goal. A lovely through ball from Chris Holmes sent Armstrong again towards the Redcar goal forcing a competent save. Minutes later the Brompton goal was under attack with the Redcar captain lunging towards a lofted pass at the far post landing badly but narrowly missing contact with the ball. The match finished with two spectacular exhibitions from the Brompton defence, David Holmes powering a shot from 20 metres narrowly missing the Redcar goal and in the final minute a magnificent track back and tackle from Robert Maclean ensured the Brompton defence held solid. Final score 0-0 did not reflect the excitement that spilled out of every minute of this game.

On Thursday, September 18 Brompton Under-16 took on Thirsk and the 6pm kick off made it a bit of a rush for everyone. Thirsk started in a rush carving through the defence to score. The goal was correctly disallowed for offside but it was a warning. Brompton settled after the early scare and on 15 minutes were unlucky to see a move involving Dawson, Brockhurst and Rose ending with the latter shooting over the bar.

On 26 minutes Thirsk seized on an opening from a long ball into the box which broke to a forward who lobbed Robinson as he came out to meet him. Straightaway Brompton hit back and Rose was again unlucky to see a shot cannon back into play off the bar.

Duncan Robinson was then called in to play at the other end foiling the advancing Tom Snow of Thirsk. Rose got involved again setting up Mark McNicholas who unfortunately couldn't control the ball through.

At half time Marley was introduced for Carson and Brompton switched to a back four with Cornfoot pushing up into midfield.

Marley was straight into the action shooting into the side netting from a tight angle. He was also on the scene ten minutes later when a Thirsk defender just did enough to block his shot and Brockhurst's follow up.

Paul Eddleston replaced the unfortunate Dawson and he soon released Marley who was again unlucky with the finish. On 70 minutes Thirsk sealed the game with a fortunately scrambled goal that the Brompton lads hotly disputed due to a handball. Charles Glahome got his last warning from the refereee and so was replaced by Thompson to save him from any further unwarranted punishment and the match closed with another Marley effort on that went wide just to show it wasn't to be his night.

Not a bad effort from Brompton overall, especially in the second half.

Manger's man of the match went to Charles Glahome with James Rose runner up for the second game running. James Marley pushed them close with a good second half performance that was just missing that finishing touch.
