A POLICE officer who suffered a stab wound to the neck while attending a domestic incident earlier this week was yesterday back on the beat.
PC Paul Jackson, 26, received a puncture wound to the neck during the incident at a house in Beech Road, Sherburn Village, near Dur-ham, in the early hours of Tuesday.
He was taken to the University Hospital of North Dur-ham, but was released later on Tuesday after treatment.
A force spokesman confirmed yesterday that PC Jackson had made a good enough recovery to resume duties in the Durham area.
It is understood his protective equipment helped to prevent more serious injuries.
PCs Kay Howarth and Sarah Waite also suffered injuries in the same incident, although neither was said to be seriously hurt.
A 30-year-old man from Sherburn Village is charged with wounding PC Jackson with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Brian Williamson, of Beech Road, is also accused of three offences of assault causing actual bodily harm, and causing an affray. He appeared before magistrates in Peterlee on Wednesday and was remanded in custody for a week.
