BOLLIN Eric, Tim Easterby's stable star, may run Sunday in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe before taking up stud duties.
The 2002 St Leger winner was declared for the race on Monday and is at ante-post prices from 25-1 to 40-1. Despite the strong field, including Kris Kin, High Chaparral and the rest, he should be worth each way support and our good wishes go with him.
Tomorrow, the Cambridgeshire includes Lady Bear from the Richard Fahey stable and Mick Easterby's Blue Spinnaker. Fahey, on the mark again with Philharmonic on Saturday, is in with a reasonable chance, but his uncle-by-marriage Mick can always spring a surprise!
Lady Bear ranges from 14s to 20-1 ante-post, with Blue Spinnaker a more generous (or realistic!) 25 or 33-1. Again, each way backers could well be rewarded.
Mark Johnston's top-rated two-year-old filly, Attraction, has sustained a foot injury and missed Thursday's Cheveley Park at Newmarket. She is ante-post favourite for next year's 1,000 Guineas, but has cracked a pedal bone and no decision will be made about the Classic until December, the trainer said.
No successes came at the Ascot Festival - or indeed elsewhere - to cheer the Kingsley House team, though some were placed and in the prize money, such as Penny Cross, third on Saturday.
Ayr Gold Cup winner Quito could only finish 16th in the Ascot sprint on Saturday from a poor draw, but the Ayr fourth, Fantasy Believer, turned out at Newcastle on Wednesday to win well.
John Quinn, who also trains Smart Predator, a Beverley winner last week, has his half-sister, Smart Hostess, who romped home well clear of the field at Ripon on Saturday. She is set to turn out again today and the trainer hoped it rained for her.
George Moore has hit a rich vein of form and Saturday's Haydock win by La Sylphide at 20-1 surprised many, giving a front-running display under Shane Kelly, but those who saw her Scottish win earlier in the season would have backed her each way.
Australian veteran jockey Terry Lucas had his first win for this year partnering Mick Easterby's Parknasilla at Southwell. Patrick Haslam, who has been in great form, sent out another winner for the Blue Lion gang with Blue Empire. David Barron hit the 60-winner mark for the season with Partners In Jazz at Hamilton.
Middleham trainer Andy Crook, 48, is to race-ride again tomorrow, 18 years after his last appearance in public. He will compete in an 11-furlong charity race at Uttoxeter and we wish him well. In the meantime, his stable star Ryalux may reappear at Wetherby on November 1 to contest the Charlie Hall as part of his preparation for the Grand National.
Richard Guest has "lost" three winners, as his first three successes failed drugs tests and will have their wins stripped. The trainer thought there had been some contamination of feed or supplements which the stable was using at the time.
His amateur Larry McGrath rode a winner at Sedgefield on his last ride before turning professional.
Brian Rothwell has had his first win from his new Nawton base, near Helmsley. Brian Ellison won all the way south at Plumpton with Torrid Kentavr and nearer home at Sedgefield, too. Mary Reveley had winners on the level and jumping.
