THE North Yorkshire Chorus has begun rehearsing for a major concert at the end of November in Ripon Cathedral.
The occasion will mark 21 years as chorus director by Christopher Thompson, of Great Ayton, and the programme represents some of his favourite choral works - the Mozart Requiem and the Solemn Vespers.
These are popular both with chorus members and with audiences, and are a good introduction for those who would like to try such concerts for the first time. The music is particularly appealing, even when unfamiliar.
The chorus hopes past members will return to attend this special occasion on Saturday, November 29, and give Mr Thompson an evening to remember.
Rehearsals take place at Northallerton Methodist Church Hall in the High Street, near the police station; dates can be obtained by calling 01748 824793.
New members will be welcomed by the chorus, whose concerts next year include the Dvorak's Stabat Mater and Carmina Burana. The chorus has made a number of overseas tours, including Finland, Germany, South Carolina and Hong Kong, and has performed with other societies in major works at the Royal Albert Hall.
