JEROME Harforth of the Stanley Grange Stud, near Great Ayton, was delighted to see Pam Sowerby's six-year-old Rotherwood Take A Peep, ridden by Alix Coster, win the 138cm ridden show pony of the year title before taking the overall Charlotte Morgan ridden championship.
Take A Peep, bred by Liz Mansfield, was also a winner at Ayr County.
Mr Harforth has produced many winners at the Horse of The Year Show and this championship was one he had always wanted to win. It was last won by a North-East competitor in 1987, when Ann Bullock and her late husband Alan, from Chop Gate, produced Derek Champion's Groundhills Amazing Grace, ridden by Katie Cartilidge.
Mr Harforth also produced the second and third in the 128cm section - Sophie Schofield riding Charn Kingfisher and Jonathan Stevens with Daldorn Victoria Plum - and the reserve hack champion Colbeach Starlight Express ridden by Alyson Fagan.
Simon Charlesworth, who won the coloured horse championship with Merrigan at Birmingham, will also compete in the NPS Baileys Ridden Mountain and Moorland Championship at Olympia with Mrs P Robson's Highland, Quest of Mendick.
