A CRICKET team made up of keen teenagers and cricketing granddads brought out of retirement has made history.
Darlington-based Rockcliffe Park B received their trophy for winning the Darlington and District Cricket League while playing in Catterick on Saturday.
They made history by storming the league's B division this year after walking away with the C division title last season. That makes them the only side to win successive titles for different divisions.
But the team, which has players aged just 16 playing alongside former players coming out of retirement aged as old as 58, will not be allowed to join the elite A division.
"Our A-side are already in the top division so we're not allowed," explained regular player Dave Graham. "There's already talk that we play them next week, just to show them who's really boss!
"Our captain, James Edwards, is only 24 and we're really chuffed with the way it's gone. James got a couple of our retired players to wear the whites once again and they knocked the ball all over the park. It really opened the eyes of our players who are under 18. We're a bit of a hotch potch side - but we were 24 points clear before the final match."
