A TEENAGER from Catterick has survived one of the toughest training regimes in the world to claim the coveted green beret of the Royal Marines.
Mark Pownall, 17, finished the 30-week Commando course at Lympstone, in Devon, as a member of 847 Troop.
"Commando training is well-known for its intensity, but everything we do is progressive, which enables people with all levels of fitness to achieve the final goal," said Mark, a former pupil at Rise-dale Community College at Catterick Garrison.
"The sense of achievement we all felt is immense, but I know many more challenges are to come - but they are challenges which we are now well-equipped to meet."
