YORKSHIRE villages have been presented with their awards after winning recognition in the regional rounds of the Calor Village of the Year competition.
The victors in the contest, organised by the Yorkshire Rural Community Council, were the twin villages of Embsay with Eastby on the edge of Skipton, which have qualified for the national rounds.
Newton-le-Willows, between Bedale and Leyburn, received the runners-up trophy at a ceremony, held at Embsay Village Hall at the weekend.
A community information technology suite, which opened earlier this year in Catterick, has earned the village a national finals place in the category for communities that have embraced new technology.
