THE Royal Military Police were no match for the Television All Stars in a charity football match at the Reynolds Arena in Darlington, yesterday.
The All Stars, featuring cast members from Coronation Street, Holby City, Hollyoaks, Brookside and Byker Grove, thrashed their opponents 7-1.
Corrie stars Alan Halsall and Andrew Whyment, who play Tyrone and Kirk, scored two goals each, and Trevor Dwidr Lynch who plays Patrick, scored one goal. Philip Olivier - Tinhead in Brookside - scored two goals.
Former military policeman Captain Andrew Scullion, who organised the event, scored for his side.
Despite losing to the All Stars, Capt Scullion was not downhearted, as £2,500 was raised for nine families of military police officers killed in Iraq, including three from North Yorkshire and the North-East.
The families of Warrant Officer Colin Wall, 34, of Middleton-One-Row, Darlington, 23-year-old Lance Corporal Ben Hyde, of Northallerton, North Yorkshire, and Corporal Simon Miller, 21, from Washington, Wearside, attended the match.
Capt Scullion said: "It was a great day, great weather, even if we did lose. We raised a lot of money for the families which is what it was all about."
