SUNDERLAND City Council has joined a campaign against age discrimination.
The council has signed the Age Concern Business Pledge to value its older employees and recognise the positive contribution they can make. About 14,000 people work for the authority. The council leader, Councillor Bob Symonds, said: "We recognise the real benefits of having a mixed age workforce. Older people can have a wealth of experience and expertise, which is invaluable when understanding and meeting the needs of all our customers." Any businesses wanting to support the campaign can contact their local Age Concern office, or the Sunderland branch on 0191-514 1131.
