DETAILS of a plan to revamp a village park have been unveiled.
Community leaders in Egglescliffe and neighbouring Eaglescliffe, near Yarm, have joined forces to renovate the War Memorial Park.
Egglescliffe and Tees parish councils and the Friends of Victorian Eaglescliffe are working together to apply to funding from the National Lottery.
They hope to refurbish the war memorial, landscape the park, replace the footpath, make the area more accessible. They also plan to install benches and bins.
Leaflets have been delievered to homes in the area and it is hoped they will contribute their comments on the plans for the park, which is at the junction of Albert Road and Victoria Road.
The scheme follows a recent £4,000 refurbishment of nearby Egglescliffe War Memorial, near the church of St John the Baptist.
Helen Rennison, Egglescliffe Parish Council clerk, said the memorial and park was jointly owned by Egglescliffe and Tees parish councils.
She said that £1,000 had already been spent pruning trees to improve visibility for night-time walkers.
"We can't praise the Friends of Victorian Eaglescliffe enough for all the work they've done getting people interested in this," Ms Rennison said.
"We've always maintained the park and memorial but it will be great to give it a real facelift."
The interested parties are working together to formulate an application to the Community Chest lottery agency.
An exact figure to apply for has not yet been determined.
