SIX men have been arrested in dawn raids at their homes over allegations of racist chanting at a football match, police said yesterday.
A father and son were among those held in the early morning operation in Hartlepool on Saturday.
The pair, aged 46 and 19, have been charged with racist chanting, along with four other men, aged 29, 30, 37 and 38.
All six are due to appear before magistrates in Hartlepool today.
The charges relate to Hartlepool United's 0-0 draw in a Second Division league game against Oldham Athletic at Pool's Victoria Park ground on September 6.
Dave Horner, operational manager of Hartlepool police, said: "Saturday's arrests send out a clear message that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated."
He added that more arrests could follow
