RESIDENTS have set up the first neighbourhood watch scheme in sheltered accommodation in the Hambleton District.

Northallerton mayor Tony Hall, was on hand last week to launch the new scheme.

Residents of the Broadacres Housing Association Complex in Castle Close have set up the project to combat crime problems with the help of the Hambleton Community Safety Partnership.

PC Phil Bird, a community safety officer, also helped to launch the scheme, which aims to reduce the number of doorstep crimes and anti-social behaviour in the area.
