Chester-le-Street Air Cadets have been given a £500 donation from the town's Miners' Lamp pub.
The fundraising was organised by landlords Bob and Denise Armstrong, from Chester-le-Street, who staged raffles, domino games and scratch card competitions. The money will be used to refit the cadets' radio room, at the Territorial Army Centre, Picktree Lane, and provide additional equipment that will help the cadets obtain their communication qualification.
ART SHOW: Castleside Art Club will hold a charity exhibition in aid of Derwentside Disabled Club at Castleside Village Hall, near Consett, on Saturday and Sunday, from 10am to 5pm. There will be more than 150 paintings and drawings on display. Admission is 20p.
DONOR SESSION: A blood donor session takes place in the Community Association, Tyne Road, Stanley, on Monday, between 2pm and 7pm.
HISTORY TALK: South Moor Local History Group has changed its venue. The group will meet in Stanley Library on Monday, at 7.15pm. Jack Hair will give a slide show and talk on the early history of Stanley. Admission is free and all are welcome.
THEATRE SHOW: M6 Theatre Company performs Forever, in the Lamplight Arts Centre, Stanley, on Tuesday, at 10am and 1.30pm. The play is aimed at teenagers and deals with the way a baby changes the lives of a young couple. For details or tickets, contact the box office on (01207) 218899.
COFFEE SUCCESS: The World's Biggest Coffee Morning event held last month at the Derwent Manor, near Consett, raised £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer Relief.

PLAYERS SOUGHT: The Derwentside Veterans League is seeking more bowlers. The club meets for triples every Monday and rink play on a Tuesday. Anyone who is interested in playing bowls next season is asked to write to the club secretary John Telford, at 42 Oakwood, Catchgate, Stanley DH9 0ND.
NATURE WALK: Consett and Vale of Derwentside Naturalists' Field Club meets on Saturday, October 18, for a circular walk around Barnard Castle and Eggleston Abbey. For further details, call (01207) 563117.
COFFEE MORNING: A coffee morning and jumble sale will be held at Bradley Cottages Methodist Church, Leadgate, near Consett, on Saturday, from 10am to 11.30am. Proceeds are in aid of the church and Sunday school funds. Admission is 10p.
FUNDS DRIVE: A jumble sale will be held at the Scout hut, Newcastle Terrace, Framwellgate Moor, on Saturday, from 10am to noon. Admission is 20p, with proceeds going to the 1st Framwellgate Moor Scout troop.
