A Sedgefield soldier has won a trophy for being best shot in his intake after completing phase one of his training.
The family of Private John Maslin travelled to Winchester to watch his passing out parade at the Army Training Regiment.
Before joining the Army Pte Maslin attended school in Sedgefield. His father, also John, still lives there.
Pte Maslin, 20, has just completed his basic training and was awarded the prize for best shot.
He said: "I am extremely proud of my progress and hope to achieve my goals within my career. I have worked with the best and hope to become the best."
Pte Maslin now goes to Chichester to complete phase two of his training, which includes courses in investigation of civilian and military criminal and non-criminal offences.
He will then join the Royal Military Police of the Adjutant General's Corps.
