A CLEVELAND rowing club has scooped two trophies in a competition in Holland.
Tees Rowing Club won the two sporting cups in the Amsterdam Masters Regatta on Saturday, October 4.
The club sent men's and women's crews to the event, on the Amstel, and, despite having to borrow boats, celebrated success.
The crew of rowers Kevin Brophy, Dick Wilkinson, Kevin Robinson, and Steven Leigh coxed by Dick's daughter Ruth, all from Tees RC won the veteran fours event over a course measuring 1km.
Deborah Ashurst, Angela Warburrton, Victoria Laing, Janet Wilkinson, all from Tees Rowing Club, won in the mixed eight's events.
"All the winners received medals that were presented at a grand dinner and celebration on the evening following the competition," said a club spokesman.
The club came first in an event in the Northern Rowing Council Autumn series of races on the River Tweed, in Berwick, earlier this month.
The 5km race in wintry conditions was won in a time of a little over 24 minutes. The club's Paul Buckworth was the fastest rower in one of the other events.
