FORMER Blue Circle cement worker Jim Readman recorded his sixth victory in ten years at Rookhope Club Leek Show, in Weardale, at the weekend.
Mr Readman, from Westgate, showed a pair of leeks measuring 179.6 cubic inches. Second was Denis Richardson, of Rookhope, with 156 cu ins, and third was David Thompson, of Stanhope, with 146.7 cu ins. Linda Bell, of Rookhope, won the prize for the best leek in show.
Haulage contractor Tony Tallentire came first in the village show at Cowshill, with leeks measuring 126.14 cu ins. Second was George Bell, also of Cowshill, with 110.08 cu ins, and third was John Peadon, of Wearhead, with 99.39 cu ins.
