A FAMILY doctor who worked in Darlington for three decades has died at the age of 85.
Dr Patrick Corkery died in the Irish town of Cork on September 20 after a long illness, his family reported.
He came to Darlington in June 1949, becoming a partner in the Drs Hogg, Henderson and Corkery practice in Brinkburn Road.
In 1967, the practice amalgamated with Drs Rosin and Whitford at Moorlands Road.
Dr Corkery qualified as a doctor in Ireland.
After working in the south of England during the Second World War, he moved to Darlington, initially to take up a short-term post.
However, he stayed on in the town for another 30 years before retiring to his native Cork in 1979.
During the time that he practised in Darlington, Dr Corkery was a member of the Catenian Association and a member of Mowden Park Rugby Club.
His cousin, Father Seamus Corkery, who officiated at his marriage in 1955, led the funeral mass.
Dr Corkery is survived by his wife, Anne, their six children and nine grandchildren.
