AN artist who is helping revive a medieval art form is displaying his work this week.

Julian Chapman is showing 20 of his pieces in the centuries-old Batik style, which has recently found favour with interior designers.

The art features scenes from Middle Age manuscripts, created by painting with hot wax onto material.

As the wax cracks, the fissures are filled with dyes, which give the pictures a marbling effect. The wax is removed once the painting is complete.

Mr Chapman's work is on show at the Glass and Art Gallery, Medomsley Road, Consett, until the end of October
