NEW facilities which will allow people to surf the Internet were unveiled yesterday at a refurbished library.
Thirty-five flat-screen computers, all with broadband access, are available at Scarborough library and information centre.
Staff are also available to show visitors how to get the most from the equipment.
The revamp of the county council library also included more than £100,000 of books, a refreshment area, an extended local studies section and a children's library.
The main lending library, which will be open seven days a week, has an audio-visual department with CDs, videos and DVDs.
Councillor Carl Les, the council's executive member for libraries, said: "This excellent refurbishment of one of our key library and information centres shows our commitment to providing a first-class service for the people of North Yorkshire."
The council intends to make improvements to many of its libraries throughout the county as part of its public access agenda.
Coun Les said: "The range of services now provided within the library is extensive.
"I'm sure that it will encourage many more people to use it."
