STUDENT David Bradley has had his design chosen for a perpetual trophy that will now be awarded to the best all-round first year art and design student at Darlington College of Technology.
David, 17, from Darlington, is studying at the college for a National Diploma in graphics.
He said: "I didn't expect to win and was surprised, but I thought it looked even better in glass."
The idea for a trophy followed a college visit to Andrew Sanders and David Wallace Glassmakers, in Pateley Bridge, North Yorkshire, where artists use techniques that have changed little in 2,000 years to craft peices that included David's trophy.
Arts tutor Lynne Waterfall-Brown said investigating craftspeople's work was an integral part of the course.
"We have always wanted a trophy in the department, too, and the visit to the glassmakers provided the ideal opportunity to get one," she said.
