SPANISH authorities have released the body of a North-East naval engineer who died in a shore leave accident in Tenerife.
The body of 21-year-old John Hutchinson is expected to be flown to Newcastle Airport today, after Spanish police completed their investigation into his death.
It is understood another inquest will be opened in this country, before a funeral can take place.
It is believed Mr Hutchinson, from Darlington, suffered critical head injuries after falling from a balcony in Playa de las Americas during four days shore leave from HMS Invincible, on Thursday, October 3.
His parents, Liz Cooke and Brian Hutchinson, were by his bedside in Tenerife when he died on Sunday, October 6.
Mr Hutchinson also leaves a sister, Fiona 15, a brother Richard, 19, and his step- father, Dave Cooke.
