VOLUNTEERS will gather to show they can really make a difference to sporting activities in their community.
The MADD About Sport event takes place in Crook Business Centre, on October 25, between 2pm and 4pm and 6pm to 8pm. It has been organised by volunteer co-ordinators 2D and Wear Valley District Council.
It has been timed to coincide with national Make a Difference Day and the Chance to Live Campaign, which is a partnership between The Northern Echo, Wear Valley District Council, Durham Dales Primary Care Trust and Northumbrian Water.
Advice will be given to people on how to set up their own sporting groups and clubs, and it is also hoped the event will attract more volunteers.
A spokesman for 2D said: "Volunteering within sport does not necessarily mean that individuals need to be sporty.
"Many organisations require volunteer groundspeople, administrators, caterers, painters/skilled trades people as well as coaches and officials. All that is really required is an interest in sport and a wish to make a difference in the community."
