A service has been held to mark the 60th anniversary of the arrival of the first Halifax bomber at Wombleton airfield, near Kirkbymoorside.
The ceremony was held at a memorial to the men and women who served in the RAF and the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), on the outskirts of the village.
It was attended by ex-servicemen and women and there were fly-pasts by a Chipmunk and a Slingsby Firefly, built at Slingsby Aircraft, Kirkbymoorside.
Personnel of the RCAF were stationed at Wombleton, among them Wallace Richmond, 79, of Croft, who recalled how he was part of the base's heavy construction unit.
After the war, he became a revenue inspector for Richmondshire District Council.
