A service commemorating the 15,000 British men and women killed in Palestine between 1939 and 1948 is taking place at the cenotaph at Eden Camp War Museum, Malton, on Saturday, at 12.45pm.

Video resource: A video resource pack highlighting experiences of pupils with special education needs has been produced. The pack, created by pupils from four mainstream York schools, costs £25 plus postage and package and is available by calling (01904) 654557.

SUCCESSFUL CONCERT:

A fundraising concert held in Northallerton raised almost £2,000 for The Joan Maynard Palliative Care Appeal. The Voices for Hospices concert aimed to increase awareness for the need for palliative care units at hospitals at Thirsk and Northallerton. Money can be donated to the appeal by calling (01845) 522637.

HEAD RETIRES: John Whittle, headteacher at Rossett School, in Harrogate, is retiring after 11 years. The governors of the school have advertised the post and it is hoped that his successor will be chosen by early December. In 1998, Rossett School was named one of the most improved schools in England.

AUTUMN FAIR: An Autumn Fair will be held at Wycar Methodist Chapel, in Bedale, on Saturday, between 10am and 2pm. Stalls will include fancy goods and crafts and refreshments are available.

safety barriers: City of York Council is to upgrade the safety barriers at the Red Lion Railway Bridge, on the A59, at Poppleton. Work is due to start on Monday and will last for five days. Traffic lights will be in operation 24 hours a day to control the traffic.

CHURCH CONCERT: The Dalesmen Male Voice Choir are performing in concert on Saturday, October 25, at Skelton Methodist Church at 7.30pm. Admission is £3 and all proceeds will be added to the Chapel Repair Fund. Doors open at 7pm.
