FRIENDS and family of a Darlington woman who died of breast cancer in March, organised a fundraising event in her memory.
Libby Buckton was remembered at a fundraising ceilidh and prize draw, at Hurworth Grange last month.
The event raised £1,400 which will be shared between St Teresa's Hospice, the Darlington and Teesside Breast Cancer Support Group and the Celebration of Life after Cancer group.
Shirley Gibson, a friend of Mrs Buckton and one of the organisers, said she had devoted her life to children, with four of her own and 31 foster children she had cared for.
She said: "She was really good fun, she devoted her life to children, and we just wanted to do something in her memory, because she was very special."
Mrs Buckton's husband, John, said his wife grew up in Middleton Tyas, where she had worked in the Post Office. The couple moved to Darlington after they married.
He said she had enjoyed baking and was verger at St Mary's Church, in Cockerton.
The ceilidh was organised by Mr Buckton, Mrs Gibson and her husband, Wil, and friends Norman and Sylvia Smith.
Prizes for the draw were donated by local people and businesses.
