Durham League, B16 Division Two: Belmont Pumas v Consett Steelers

It was Belmont who jumped out to a 6-0 start. From that positive start onwards, though the game was safely in the hands of the Pumas who quickly finished the period 22-10 to the better. Belmont comfortably played out the second half, winning the game 70-54. Waldock's 14 second half points for Belmont and Patterson's scoring 21 second half points for Consett were the highlight performances.

B17 Division Two

Specsavers Wear Valley Wolves v East Durham & Houghall College 'B'

Grant Wakefield and Sam Attah provided the scoring for the Wolves, whilst on the other side it was David Wylie and Mark Steutel who were able to give their College team a one point lead after the first period.

Andrew Bains kept College heads in the game with Colin McEvoy providing much needed support going into the final period trailing 73-76. College had a chance to steal the victory but that was whisked away from them in the final minute by a Sam Attah basket. So, it was the Specsavers Wear Valley Wolves who won the closest of games 96-94.

B18 Division Two

Middlesbrough College Academy v Durham Saints

Academy started the game with a full court press that allowed them to take an early 13-4 lead. The Saints were able to find a rhythm however and started to find the basket more regularly. The second half started with Academy stepping up their defence to a new level as they went on a 17-2 run giving them an almost unassailable 21 point advantage going into the final ten minutes. A devastating 22-3 Academy streak put the game further out of Durham's reach. Academy wound up the game victors by 93-54.

A21 Division 1

Steve Whitehead Joinery & Glazing Services Middlesbrough Mavericks v Trimdon

Trimdon showed no signs of early season jitters however as they started the sprightlier of the two teams. John Anderson and Lee Norton guided them to quick 7-0 run. Pawlak then started getting into gear for the home team with a quick brace of baskets.

By the end of the opener, Trimdon had opened up a 26-18 lead. The visitors then extended their lead to 11 points early in the second quarter. However Mavericks stepped up their game at both ends to add 12 points without reply. The highlight being the performance of Norton who's 27 of Trimdon's 34 second half points tried to stop the Mavericks who left Yarm with the spoils, winning 98-71.

B19 Division 2

Old Houghtonians v Hartlepool HQ Engineering Hornets B

The Hornets started well enough by taking the game to the Houghtonians, Bruce Marshall and Graeme Errington providing the first quarter catalyst that saw them carry form through to the end of the first half. Three-pointers by Paul Carr furthered Houghton's cause. Trailing into the fourth quarter the Hornets found a resurgence through Luke Thompson' 13 points and had a genuine chance of recovery, but the gap was too big to bring back as Philip Smailes applied the full stop to the victory for Old Houghtonians 83-78.

B20 Division 2

Shildon Strollers v Teeside Huskies

It was Ballard who made the early running for the Strollers who ended the first quarter with a sizable 19-6 lead. Henderson and Richardson combined to keep Teeside competitive.

The gap in quality showed throughout though as the Strollers ran out 79-50 winners.

CC 2 County Cup

Hartlepool CJ Hydraulics v Young Houghtonians

Young Houghtonians only had six players dressed for the game. But even if they had twice as many players, nothing would have stopped the Hydraulics' barnstorming opening quarter, outscoring their opponents by 22-1. The Hydraulics were able to weather the storm in the end winning 51-48 and advance into the next round of the County Cup against Norton 'B'.

CC3 County Cup Norton v Belmont Cougars

A very even Count Cup tie, eventually won by the home side thanks to two short spells in the second half.
