Norton Under-10 A took on the unbeaten league leaders Eldon Lions, but had to be satisfied with a 1-1 draw.
From kick off, Norton attacked the Eldon goal and were unlucky not to score in the first few minutes. Both teams played well in the first half with Eldon taking a 1-0 lead. Norton changed formation in the second half and came out the stronger side and were rewarded with an equaliser from Matthew Johnson. Eldon put on the pressure again, but couldn't get past goalkeeper Thomas Johnson who pulled off some excellent saves.
Norton Under-10 B three-match unbeaten run came to an end at Belasis, losing 2-1. Norton played well against an older team with David Roth and Daniel Chesser dominating midfield. Free kicks from Lewis Wing and Liam Woodhouse went close but Belasis keeper excelled. Jack Griffiths made two good early saves but Belasis led 2-0 with ten minutes to go. Woodhouse pulled one back with a shot, come cross but despite pressure, Norton failed to equalise.
It was a very competitive first half between Norton Under-13 A and South Park where both teams showed a lot of endeavour, if not much skill. Norton took the lead twice only to see South Park equalise on both occasions. The teams finished the first half 2-2. South Park came out fighting, scoring four goals without reply. The Norton side folded under the onslaught losing their shape and discipline. Goals were then exchanged at both ends with Norton picking up two consolation goals. Final score was South Park 9, Norton 4.
Norton Under-13 B turned in a very below-par performance, suffering their first defeat of the season at the hands of a well organised Yarm. Yarm started the liveliest and the signs were there that Ancients were in for a tough game. Yarm opened the scoring early following an uncharacteristic slip by the Ancients keeper, however Ancients recovered and created half a dozen scoring opportunities before the break. None were taken, and Yarm scored almost immediately after half-time. A third followed quickly and despite all their first half hard work Ancients were beaten. Ross Davison scored a deserved consolation goal towards the end, although praise must go to Shaun Sanson and Josh Simpson who both put in excellent performances for Norton which kept the team going. Final score was 3-1 to Yarm.
Norton Under-15 A went into their game against Tennis World with a good League Cup victory against Marton Hall Drive last week. Norton dominated the game with Joe Burns scoring a good goal which started with a kick from the goalkeeper and a good cross from M Woodhouse. The other goal came from G Simcox to win the game 2-0 for Norton.
A powerful display from Norton Under-16s saw them go through in this Durham Cup tie against a strong Gateshead Cleveland Hall team who, like Norton, are an FA Charter Club. Norton opened the scoring in the first half with goals from Shaun Taylor and Andrew Giddings, who made some very strong runs down the left side. Further goals from Shaun Taylor and Steven Rudd made the score 4-0 at half time. Norton's defence looked solid when tested and further increased their lead with the best goal of the game with a finish from Shaun Taylor following a strong run and interchange of passes with Lee Thomas. Gateshead pulled one back through Dean Tempest. Norton completed the scoring with a headed goal from Steven Rudd following a Dave McGreal corner to make the final score Norton 6, Gateshead Cleveland Hall 1.
