Mike Gough Sports Hartlepool Sunday League: Premier Division
Rovers 5 Blackhall Cricket Club 1
Davy Hoey split the Blackhall defence after just 30 seconds and Andy McKenna gave Rookes no chance from eight yards. The visitors should have equalised but Moss fired wide with just Easson to beat. Hoey and Dixon then combined to set up Keith Hutchinson who beat Rookes with a powerful 16-yard drive. Rovers' defence stood firm under pressure and early in the second half they increased their lead when McKenna rounded off a neat move. Blackhall never gave up but they left space at the back which Rovers exploited to and Jon Kegans added two more including a stunning 35-yard effort.
First Division Cup
Corner Flag 3 Tunstall Old Boys 0
Paul Clouston scored the first finishing off a brilliant move and Mark Ingstant made it two with a 30-yard chip. Craig Jackson pulled off a series of superb saves to keep the home side's lead intact before sub Ian May made the game safe with the third.
Corporation Welfare 1 Office 1 (Corporation won 7-6 on penalties)
It took a tense penalty shoot out to separate these two teams after a hard fought 120 minutes. Office took the lead in normal time but leading scorer Mark Barnfather equalised.
Odessa 5 Rugby 1
THIS was Rugby's worst performance of the season as they were deservedly beaten. The home side raced to a two-goal lead inside the first 15 minutes as Michael Bell headed home the rebound from his own shot then Paul Martin slotting home from Shaun Winwood's pass. Odessa missed chances to increase their lead and Michael Gardener saved Martin's spot kick.
Further pressure in the second half saw a Rugby defender put past his own keeper then man of the match Bell added two more to complete a deserved hat-trick. Chris Fletcher pulled a goal back for Rugby.
Ye Olde Durhams 3 G'ham Bull & Dog 1
The home side's early pressure eventually paid off when Steve Barr put them in front, however Greatham equalised through Paul Buckley. Simon Blackett restored Durhams' lead and then Neil Dobson sealed the points with a good finish.
Second Division Cup
Athletic Millhouse 0 Fens 1
David Millican scored the all-important goal which was all that separated the teams.
He pounced in the second half as an understrength Fens side worked hard, especially after they were reduced to ten men with Jamie Munro's dismissal.
Millhouse fought all the way but couldn't breach a resolute and well-organised defence.
Engineers 2 Charter Bar 7
Charter bar got back to winning ways but made hard work of defeating a depleted Engineers side. It was an own goal which set Bar on their way then Adam Waller made it two after good work from Kerry Freeman and Steve Liston made it three at the break.
Marty Ryan's fine header pulled one back for Engineers but Bar put the tie beyond reach with four goals from twins Scott and Glen Thompson, Waller's second and sub Mitch Devenport. Experienced campaigner Gary Lupton scored a late consolation for Engineers.
St Francis 2000 4 Owton Lodge 5
Phillip Bassett put the home side ahead but John Medhurst soon equalised and Graeme Douglas added another with a great strike. Simon Hoey equalised but Peter Eglintine's diving header put lodge's noses back in front at the break.
Two quick goals put the home side back in front - Anthony Coverdale's penalty and Liam Coverdale's strike. Robert Eglintine brought scores level again and it was Peter Walsh who popped up to score the winner with just 3 minutes to go.
St Josephs 6 Workingmens Club 2
Workies got off to a disastrous start, going three down in the first quarter of an hour - the pick of them being a strike from Mick Wanley. The visitors then had a stroke of luck with Oliver's throw in leading to an own goal, but poor defending saw them concede another before the break. It didn't get much better for the visitors in the second half as they conceded another from a free-kick. They had chances to score through McCallum, Ireland and Sharp, and it was the latter who eventually got his name onto the scoresheet.
Seaton Holy Trinity 0 Clarendon 2
Clarendon progressed to the second round with a comfortable victory over a side who played over an hour with ten men.
Peter Smith did the damage with two goals in a five minute spell before the break, clipping the ball home inside the six-yard box then heading powerfully home from a corner. Ten-man Seaton battled hard in the second half and Dave Colling went closest.
TMD 7 Stranton Athletic 4
Stranton had raced to a four-goal first half lead with a brace each from Andrew Carter and Tom Anderson but the home side turned things with goals from Chris Wood (3), Brendan Deer (2), Martin Greig and Michael Lloyd.
