Thirsk Falcons: After three weeks of no games for Thirsk Falcons the Under-12s travelled to Catterick. Falcons started well with a shot just wide of the post and a few good runs into their opponents penalty area.
Thirsk also soaked up a lot of pressure by Catterick, unfortunately Thirsk gave away a penalty which Catterick converted. Thirsk had some good chances with shots by David Mosley and Liam Cook but they were unable to find the back of the net.
Catterick added another two goals to give them a 3-0 lead going into half time. The second half saw Catterick score another two goals, but Thirsk kept going and with the third corner of the match Joe Barwick head the ball home. Thirsk had a couple more chances but couldn't make them count. A well deserved man of the match for Joe Barwick, and a good game was had by Matty Davison, Sean Taylorson, Andrew Bustard and keeper Sam Robinson who's keeping kept the score down to 5-1 to Catterick.
Brompton Juniors
The Under-10s B were up against Teesside Athletic and had a good start to the game, especially in midfield where Jason Howell and George Austick battled hard. On nearing half time Brompton made two silly errors which Teesside took advantage of to go in 2-0 at half time. The second half saw Teesside take control of the game. Brompton tried to compete but Athletic scored four goals to finish the game 6-0 winners.
In a tight match against Whinney Banks B, Brompton Under-10s' Joe Richards started in goal for the first time with the solid back pairing of David Holmes and Robert Maclean in front of him. The first half was characterised by a host of chances for Brompton, bouncing off post or bar as in turn Mark Watkinson, Tom Armstrong and Daniel Macfarlane peppered the Whinney Banks' goal. Chris Holmes, solid again in the centre of midfield, kept the game moving forwards as Brompton dominated possession for most of the first half. A half-time score of 0-0 was scant reward for all the attacking zeal of Brompton.
Brompton started the second half with David Foster replacing Tom Armstrong and continued as they left off with a shot from Mark Watkinson saved by the Whinney Banks' goalkeeper who was perhaps Whinney Banks man of the match. Whinney Banks scored their first goal from a massive goal kick bouncing over the Brompton defence and being slotted home. The second goal came as Brompton defended a rare Whinney Banks attack with David Holmes playing the ball out of defence past three Whinney Banks' strikers and unluckily miskicking his final clearance as his left foot slid away from him as a divot from the ground gave way. David Holmes went off injured at this point with a twisted ankle and was replaced by Jack Cullen.
The game ended 2-0 to Whinney Banks, a first league defeat for Brompton Under-10 A team this season.
Brompton Under-16s, playing down a slight slope at Barnard Castle, started well and after two minutes a Rose free-kick ended up with Glahome shooting over. Minutes later Brockhurst found himself free on goal but the Barnard goalkeeper pulled off a fine save.
Barnard then seemed to settle and caused the locals a few problems before Brompton eventually grabbed the lead with a Marley free kick landing at Cornfoot's feet and he just managed to steer the ball home.
Having got the goal they probably deserved Brompton started to play more fluent football and a neat move between Dawson and Brockhurst ended with Dawson firing into the side netting. Brockhurst almost got a second when chasing a long ball and beating both defender and goalkeeper to it only to also hit the side netting.
Just before half time JJ, who had been having a difficuilt time, made a splendid goal-line clearance to keep Brompton in front at the break.
After the break Barnard got an equaliser after the reliable Pinkney saw a ricochet end up falling between Robinson in goal and the forwards feet. Robinson correctly made the dash out and made the centre forward miscue his effort however the supporting Barnard player beat Adamson to the ball to hit the net.
It got worse for Brompton as slack defending and a lack of co-ordination allowed Barnard castle to snatch the lead and a game that had been more or less dominated by Brompton was slipping away.
Fortunately a James Rose free kick found McNicholas in the box and he managed to steer the ball into the top corner of the net for a deserved equaliser.
Glahome convincingly took the man of the match award with Marley runner up but both Brockhurst and Cornfoot were also effective in a decent game.
Spennymoor returned from a two week absence with an emphatic 5-2 away win against their old rivals Dunelm Youth.
In the first round of the league cup. Playing against a team they had previously found great difficulty in achieving success they played with a great level of confidence and belief throughout.
Once again the goals were spread throughout the team and not relying on just a couple of players. Scorers were Jason White, Christopher Jones, Michael Gibson, Todd Franey and a supposedly injured Adam Watson. A mention must go to the defence who have turned things round in the past month, Richard McCreaddie, Mark Burnage, Craig Jackson and man of the match Kyle Redfern.
Bishop Auckland College
The Under-18s were drawn against Coxhoe Athletic in the first round of the League Cup and the College got off to a good start with a goal from Derek Wade off a corner supplied by Anthony Ebdon in the second minute.
After that Coxhoe started to play some good football with Michael Donohue scoring an equiliser to take the teams into half-time level.
With ten minutes remaining the ball was sent down the left by Lee Dobinson to Paul Walker to Anthony Ebdon who crossed for Anthony Ross to convert for a 2-1 win.
Bishop Auckland Barrington Wanderers
Barrington Wanderers played a County Cup match against Sunderland Westmoreland Insurance. The home side started well going four goals up.
Unfortunately a number of individual errors proved costly with the final score finishing 4-5.
The manager had nothing but praise for his team for battling to the end with the home team finishing the stronger and having a flurry of late attacks. Ian Gosney and man of the match Paul Brunskill scored the goals.
Willington Boys
THE Under-11s drew 1-1 with Riverside in the Russell Foster Junior League. Alex Herd scored for Willington with Jonathan Grainger man of the match.
Willington Under-16s are looking for more players to strengthen the squad. Anyone interested can contact Philip Archer on 01388 746268 or Michael Savage on 01388 763307.
