RICHMONDSHIRE RFC players will be looking their best as they fight for promotion this season, thanks to Charltons estate agents and chartered surveyors.

The firm, which has offices in Richmond, Darlington, Catterick Garrison and Barnard Castle, has agreed to be the main sponsor of the team's kit.

The new kit will remain in the club's famous red, white and yellow colours, with the Charltons logo emblazoned across the front of all jerseys.

Mike Charlton, principal of the company, has played senior rugby since 1969. He started his first team career with Sunderland and spent 20 seasons as player and captain for Mowden Park RFC before turning out for Richmondshire for the next four years.

He has spent the last two seasons coaching the first team with colleague Paul Leadbetter.

Mr Charlton said: "I am delighted with our association with Richmondshire RFC. The kit looks absolutely fantastic and is sure to give the team a real boost in their battle to gain promotion at the end of this season.

"Throughout all of my years playing rugby, I have never enjoyed myself as much as I have over the last four. The atmosphere for both players and supporters is tremendous and socially the club is completely unrivalled."

He added: "Richmondshire Rugby Club is one of the area's best loved sporting venues. We are constantly looking for new players and welcome all ages, shapes and sizes."

Club captain Kieran Pavey said: "Charltons has been a staunch supporter of Richmondshire for many years. We are very grateful to the firm for its generous contribution and grateful to Mike Charlton for the important role he has played over recent years."
