Wilton 1st team played hosts to newly promoted Tynemouth in what was always going to be a tough match.
Both teams started brightly with Wilton edging it by dint of the number of chances they had. After 20 minutes Wilton regretted the amount of chances that they had squandered as Tynemouth took the lead through a mis-hit penalty corner. The ball bobbled over the outstretched arm of keeper Mark Morris and over the stick of a defender on the line! However, Wilton battled back and after five minutes equallised through hardworking captain, Peter Elgey who netted after some fine passing into the circle.
It was Tynemouth who went into the lead for the second time thirty minutes into the second half. Wilton's Danny Morgan was caught in possession just outside the circle and Tynemouth speedily took the chance to wrap the match up. The game was disrupted by three yellow cards in a game which had been played in a sporting manner. Final score was Wilton 1st 1, Tynemouth 2.
Wilton 2nds travelled to South Shields, the team who promoted as champions of division three last year. In previous seasons, Shields have proven to be a thorn in Wilton's side as they make themselves very difficult to beat. Despite much early pressure from Wilton, Shield broke the deadlock after a swift counter attack saw their speedy front man hammer home through the legs of unlucky keeper Shaun Wallace, who was trying desperately to narrow the angle. Wilton battled back and levelled the game with an exquisite deflection from Andy Hibberd after the ball was drilled in from a well worked penalty corner routine. Wilton then had a temporary lapse in concentration and allowed Shields to take the lead again on the stroke of half time.
In the second period both teams looked resilient and another goal looked unlikely, but Shield eventually managed to extend their lead as they used their long ball tactics to good effect with the striker beating the Wilton defence for pace. But Wilton were not finished, stern words from captain Nevison, made Wilton spring into action and led to an almost instantaneous result, And Hibberd again with an intricate flick past the hapless Shields keeper after the ball was drilled in by Glen Cutler who minutes later added Wilton's third after some superb link up play by man of the match Alex Harrison. Before the game Wilton would have settled for the draw, but they realised this game was for the taking and they went for it, unfortunately in the last ten minutes Shields punished Wilton for their attack mindedness and twice penetrated the defence to take the final score was Shields 5, Wilton 3.
Wilton's 3rd team were left without a game as Redcar 2nds were unable to field a team.
