CHILDREN from St Peter's CE Primary School in Brotton went on a culinary round-the-world tour this week.
The 300 pupils are studying world cultures and, as part of their lessons, cooked dishes from different parts of the globe each day, including Italy, Africa, France and China.
Kitchen staff entered into the spirit by dressing in different costumes and cooking githeri (French stew), French omelettes, chipati bread, spaghetti bolognese and Italian ice cream.
Years five and six created French pastries, years three and four made Italian pizzas, years one and two experimented with rice dishes and foundation stage children used maize as a main ingredient.
The four-day event was inspired by working with Angela Cairns from the Middlesbrough-based One World Centre.
The school's headteacher, John Stinson, said: "It was a great success - and the food's been excellent, too."
