A field of 393 runners completed the Bridlington Half Marathon, and there might have been more but for a road accident which prevented some people from getting there on time.

John Yates, meanwhile, was involved in what is billed as the world's toughest mountain race, the Mt Kinabalu Climbathon, on South East Asia's highest mountain, on the island of Borneo. The challenge is to get from 1850 metres to the summit , 4095 metres, in two and a half hours, up a series of rough and difficult steps. John was about 500 m short in the allowed time, but the field included many professional mountain runners who made the rest seem fairly inadequate, the winner taking 2h 37min. A fine medal and a t-shirt were the reward at the end!
