Darlington could be without skipper Paul Lee for several weeks after he suffered a dead leg in Saturday's defeat by Dudley Kingswinford.
"It's badly swollen and he has no movement in it," said his brother Craig, the player-coach. "It looks as though I'll have to move to fly half."
Still seeking their first point after three games in National Three North, Darlington tomorrow visit Fylde, where neighbours Mowden Park lost 24-20 last week.
Another pair of brothers, Dave and Graham Haswell, are fit again and Dave is likely to take Craig Lee's place at centre while Graham provides another option at full back.
He was selected there for the opening match of the season, the Powergen Cup tie at Blaydon, but pulled a hamstring in the warm-up.
Prop Dan Miller has recovered from the injury which forced him off last week and Andrew Carphin is fit to return at blind side, while winger Paul Beattie will make his first appearance of the season.
"We started well last week," said Lee. "But some players patted themselves on the back a bit too much at half-time.
"We said before the season started that if we were going to do well at this level we would have to make the first-time tackles count.
"But after looking at the video of Saturday's match it's obvious we need to be a lot tighter round the rucks and mauls.
"Also our line-out was atrocious, which is something we will have to work on because if we can't win our primary ball we are going to struggle."
Mowden entertain Liverpool St Helens and hope to have centre Martin Shaw fully fit after he was taken ill at Fylde.
He has trained this week and there is suddenly competition for places at centre with Sandy Mitchell a week from full fitness while Chris Blacklock impressed in the seconds last week.
There was bad news of winger James Tyrrell from the second team game, however, as he lasted only 20 minutes on his comeback before dislocating a thumb so badly that he was in hospital until Monday. He will be out for four to six weeks.
It's another Powergen day tomorrow and there will be plenty of clubs in the second round of the Intermediate Cup pleased to see that Bradford and Bingley, who will be among the favourites, have a tough tie at Sheffield.
Horden's tie at Hartlepool Rovers gives them their second derby in three weeks following their 12-6 home win against West Hartlepool.
"It's a nice break from league rugby but there will still be a lot of tension in the game," said Horden chairman John Groves. "Rovers are doing quite well, but we are quietly confident."
Mark Watson, brother of 18-year-old scrum half Luke, retains his place at loose head after impressing as deputy for Michael Thompson, who switches to tight head on his return from holiday.
Gavin Davidson is at hooker and 18-year-old Craig Gilmour returns at No 8 after reacting to being dropped by scoring a hat-trick in the seconds last week.
Other ties involving North-East clubs are Middlesbrough v Houghton, Hartlepool v Driffield and Ashington v Gateshead.
Boro will be without skipper Gavin Fingland and scrum half Peter Wright, who both expect to be out for only one week through injury.
Mark Keruish comes in at open side and Alastair Little is at scrum half with Mark Featherstone at centre.
In the Powergen Junior Vase, unbeaten Northallerton entertain Baildon with Sandy Sanderson coming in for unavailable lock Sam Davidson.
Northallerton have conceded only one try in six games this season, while centre Ben Allerton scored a hat-trick against Leeds Corinthians last week.
