BOOK enthusiasts have been promised a better service in the Dunnington area of York.
The city council, the Countryside Agency, Dunnington Parish Council and Bishopthorpe and Wheldrake Ward Committee are helping double the size of the local library at a cost of £20,000.
Their scheme has been co-ordinated by the Reading Rooms Committee, a partnership of residents who run community facilities.
On Saturday, the library will close for about three months while the work is completed.
A mobile library will visit the village in the meantime, calling on Tuesdays, between 9.30am and 10.30am, and Thursdays, between 3.30pm and 4.15pm.
