DURHAM sixth formers found out about the campaign for a regional assembly yesterday.
Teenagers from St Leonard's School quizzed MP Ed Davey, the Liberal Democrat spokesman on the regions, about the issue.
The event was organised by Yes4theNorthEast, the organisation set up to campaign for a yes vote in a referendum for an assembly. The pupils have been learning about the proposals for a regional assemblies in politics lessons.
A Yes4theNorthEast spokeswoman said: "We are hoping to do a bit of work with people in this age range because it is an issue that will affect their future.
"One of the first opportunities they will have to vote could be in the referendum."
She said that the organisation hoped to have a wider debate with sixth formers about the assembly proposals.
