A DURHAM woodland is to be tidied up by volunteers on Friday.
The Friends of Pelaw Woods has been set up to look after the 35-acre site in the Gilesgate area of the city.
Friday is Make a Difference Day and the friends will be working in the woods.
Friends secretary Roger McAdam said: "Our aim is to provide an educational resource as well as a leisure area.
"There are a variety of natural habitats, including beech and oak woodland, birch and larch woodland, a steep-sided gulley containing Pelaw Wood Beck and an area of open scrubland to the east.
"The area is rich in varieties of birds and mammals."
The volunteers will be clearing an overgrown footpath running east to west through the woods and clearing rubbish from other paths.
They will be joined by teams from the Durham Countryside Rangers and Northumbrian Water.
On Monday, a group youngsters will plant 200 daffodil bulbs with the help of Marie Curie Cancer Care.
