FIVE Stockton teenagers were among potential recruits given a taste of life in the Army when they attended an open day at North Yorkshire's Alanbrooke Barracks.
Anthony Johnson, Dan Broadbent and Andrew Ions, who are all 18, and 17-year-olds Peter Allan and Gareth Renton, tried their hand at laser and paint-ball target shooting, as well as scaling a tower and descending a "death slide" designed to test their nerves.
Men from the North-East's Green Howards, currently based in Ballykelly in Northern Ireland, organised the three-day event.
"We invited young people from schools, uniformed organisations and other groups to spend time with us, have fun and find out about life and opportunities in the modern infantry," said the regiment's youth team commander, Captain Steve Mincher.
"We hope it's given them a flavour of how technically advanced the infantry is, and that we have given them a few ideas about their future careers."
