DANCERS who did not know their fox-trot from ther tango five months ago have had their skills recognised.
Completing the International Dance Teachers' Association examinations is a very special achievement for the ten students, who all have learning difficulties.
The group, who attend the Innovations Centre, a private care centre in Shildon for people with special needs, started classes at the Lee Green Dance Centre in June.
On Sunday they impressed examiners by performing ballroom favourites including a waltz, square tango, and fox-trot.
Jennifer Howe, a manager at Innovations, said: "Dancing is a really good activity for keeping fit, balance, co-ordination and socialising.
"I am really proud of the group and they are thrilled to have passed exams to show how well they have done."
Brenda Thomson, principle at the Newton Aycliffe dance school, said: "It is a real achievement for anyone new to dance, and especially good for people with learning difficulties. They have picked up dance really quickly and really enjoy it."
