A student crushed by a runaway council van has undergone further surgery.
Ursula Billington, 18, was left fighting for her life after she was pinned against a wall by the van as it rolled down Owengate, a steep and narrow cobbled street near Durham Cathedral, two weeks ago.
The fresher, from Derby, had been in the region for a few days after starting a psychology course at the city's university.
Her parents, Arthur and Penny, kept a vigil at her bedside.
She suffered severe internal injuries and underwent surgery at Durham's University Hospital.
But she needed another operation after her condition worsened at the weekend.
A spokesman for Durham Police said her condition was stable and improving.
The force's accident investigation unit is still looking into the incident, which involved a Durham City Council vehicle.
The spokesman said officers were talking to witnesses and would not interview the driver until that part of the inquiry was complete.
