A GROUP of pupils have been helping to brighten up a plant nursery.
Youngsters from Stranton Primary School visited Hartlepool Borough Council's Stranton nursery to see murals based on designs they suggested.
The murals have been painted by Francis Connoly on two large tanks that collect and recycle rainwater for use at the nursery, which produces thousands of plants every year.
Len Young, the council's horticultural supervisor, said: "We extended our sales area and felt the two tanks were noticeably drab so we decided to brighten them up with the colourful murals.
"We are delighted with the results and feel the murals have really brightened up the nursery. The children deserve a lot of credit for coming up with some excellent designs."
Judith Thomas, the headteacher, said: "The children enjoyed working with the artist and found it particularly interesting to visit the nursery and see how their own ideas have become reality."
