THE community warden service in Stockton is to expand.
Stockton Borough Council's cabinet has agreed to continue the service, which has been in operation for four years.
The existing arangement, which covers Hardwick, central Stockton, Norton and parts of Thornaby and Billingham, will continue for at least another two years, through to April 2006.
Early next year, a scheme covering the Roseworth and Mile House wards will start.
Funding is being sought to extend the service in Billingham and Thornaby.
Councillor Martyn Ingram, the council's cabinet member for housing and community safety, welcomed the news.
He said: "I am really pleased the cabinet has agreed to continue and extend this valuable service.
"There was strong support for its continuation from cabinet, which is a tribute to the motivation and adaptability of the wardens, who have risen to all the challenges and impressed many people with their commitment to delivering a first rate service and responding to particular concerns."
