SCORES of pupils have been rewarded for their achievements.
Parents packed the hall at Greencroft School, in Annfield Plain, near Stanley, for the annual awards evening.
John Mitcheson, a PE inspector for Durham education authority, presented trophies and certificates.
He said: "I firmly believe that, if we want sporting success on the world stage, we have to invest in grassroots sport. It starts in PE lessons in schools."
Pupils entertained the audience with poetry readings and extracts from A Midsummer Night's Dream
