Shildon FC are all geared up for the arrival of the FA Cup at the Dean Street ground this afternoon as part of the build-up to Saturday's cup clash against Stocksbridge Park Steels of Sheffield.
Supporters and local schoolchildren will get the chance to be photographed with the cup, alongside players who are hoping to fire Albany Northern League side Shildon into the first round proper for the first time in 42 years. Manager Ray Gowan is hoping local football fans will have another great day to remember in years to come.
"On paper Stocksbridge are a far superior side and we are certainly the underdogs, but our players will give it a real go on Saturday" said Gowan.
"With the commitment of our chairman, Gordon Hampton, and the players, this is the best side I have ever had at the club in 11 years and if we get our fans and the town right behind us, and play to our maximum potential, we could be in dreamland by 4.45pm on Saturday."
Gowan has already reached the first round proper with former clubs Brandon United and Spennymoor United, and admitted that a draw against a club like Sheffield Wednesday or a local derby against Darlington or Hartlepool could help put this club on the map.
