WORK has begun on the musician and performance resource centre at the former Borough Road music centre in Darlington.
Local businessman Dave Cox says he wants to give local musicians and artists the opportunity to perform and record in social surroundings.
The Forum will allow bands and artists of all genres, including rock, classical and folk, to develop their sound through a variety of formats, including rehearsal, recording and performing.
Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights will see high profile acts perform in the 170-seater capacity auditorium, which has a drinks and late licence
The Forum is one of the most ambitious and exciting projects in the North-East music scene, and with an all-ages-welcome policy, Darlington will be well represented in the region's music community.
Mr Cox says: "We hope to breed a wealth of quality bands and producers that can further develop the region's scene."
A website will also accompany The Forum, so that bands and audiences can keep updated with everything happening at the venue.
